UCSF Dermatopathology Service receives requests to review previously prepared slides along with an accompanying report in consultation. Our physicians will study these slides and either agree with the original diagnosis or provide a more accurate diagnosis.
Other physicians often send their slides to UCSF Dermatopathology Service and request a consultation or second opinion on their complex cases. Additionally, requests for consultation are also received from patients or parents on behalf of their children to confirm an original diagnosis before embarking on a course of treatment.
Our physicians will provide a report with their diagnosis for the referring physician. A copy of our report will also be sent to the pathologist who originally reported this case.
